School-Based Curriculum
Our Enrichment & Extension
At Wycombe Abbey Schools, we not only focus on the development of academic excellence, but also on the interests and potential of our students. We offer about 100 extracurricular extension programmes covering sports, arts, music, science and humanities. These include more than 30 sports and 20 one-on-one lessons in Chinese and Western musical instruments, as well as a wide variety of programmes such as ceramics, costume design, 3D printing, programming, robotics, etc., to help every student discover his or her talents and potential and develop skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Sports
High-quality extracurricular sports courses develop students’ physical strength and mental resilience.
At Wycombe Abbey Schools, we believe participating in sports is a fantastic way to strengthen the body and the mind together. Our outstanding sports provision includes both individual and team activities to help children achieve personal growth. Physical education and sports support health and well-being and are crucial in developing resilience, team spirit and leadership, as well as teaching students about fair competition and respect for their opponents, whether they win or lose.
Music
Music is of enormous importance in Wycombe Abbey International Schools. Before they embark on their IGCSE curriculum, music is a compulsory course for every student.
Music is one of the earliest forms of expression. It is a powerful transforming force in the process of people’s intellectual, social and spiritual growth. The range of musical instruments available for students to master their musical skills and foster creativity is diverse and music lessons are delivered in a rigorous but varied style, ranging from theory, appreciation, arrangement, composition, vocal music, and more.
Art
A varied art education serves as the foundation of creativity.
At Wycombe Abbey International Schools, we pay great attention to art education. Art is a compulsory course for students in the lower grades rather than just being optional.
We offer a wealth of art courses, including graphic design, painting, photography and sculpture, helping students discover new skills and talents and develop their creativity, coordination and perseverance. Art exhibitions are often held to display students’ works. Students interested in art can choose to study art in their IGCSE and A Level programs, thereby fully developing their interests in art.
Our school has exceptionally well-equipped art classrooms and workshops which offer an ideal environment for creativity and help students lay a solid foundation for their future art studies and careers.
Drama
Drama is another distinctive course on offer at Wycombe Abbey International Schools.
We encourage all students to participate in dramatic performances to improve their performance skills and capabilities in writing, directing and stage management, as well as to develop their confidence, communication and social skills, self-discipline, leadership, agility, creativity and teamwork.
Wycombe Abbey International Schools is equipped with superb professional theatre facilities, giving students every opportunity to explore their interests and develop their potential in acting.
STEAM
At Wycombe Abbey Schools, we are committed to providing students with as many opportunities as possible for interdisciplinary STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) research and application, nurturing exceptional critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, all of which lay a solid foundation for their lifelong development. The school not only guides students in their individual research projects to achieve high scores in the EPQ and earn CREST awards, but also encourages them to compete for prestigious science competition accolades.
