WAS Nanjing Launches Dove Scholarship to Foster Academic Excellence
As the autumn breeze sets in and anticipation fills the air, we are thrilled to announce a new academic initiative at Wycombe Abbey Nanjing — the launch of the Dove Scholarship for this academic year.
The Dove Scholarship aims to recognise, challenge and support our high-potential students, while inspiring others to pursue academic excellence through the power of example. This initiative further strengthens our school’s core commitment to academic excellence, providing our pupils with an inspiring platform for growth and challenge.
WHAT IS THE DOVE SCHOLARSHIP
The creation of the Dove Scholarship is far from coincidental — it embodies our respect for, and continuation of, our educational mission.
This award is named in honour of Dame Jane Frances Dove, the founder of our sister school in the UK, Wycombe Abbey. It serves as a tribute to her outstanding contribution to education and a means to pass on her enduring spirit of academic excellence to all WAS Nanjing students.
Award Categories
Mini Dove|for pupils in Grades 5–6
Junior Dove|for pupils in Grades 7–9
Senior Dove|for pupils in Grades 10–12
Notes:
1、The scholarship is valid for one year. If a student continues to demonstrate academic excellence and remains enrolled full-time, the award will be renewed automatically.
2、For pupils in Grades 1–4, the school will identify those with exceptional academic potential without the need for application. These pupils will be placed on a Gifted and Talented tracking list — a preparatory programme designed to support and extend the most able students at lower year levels.
3、As this is the inaugural year of the programme, selected Grade 12 students already recognised for high academic potential will be automatically awarded the Senior Dove Scholarship, so as not to disrupt their ongoing studies and university applications.
The Dove Scholarship is open to all full-time WAS Nanjing students (except Grades 1–4 and Grade 12). The list of awardees will be officially announced at the Whole School Assembly on Monday, 27 October 2025.
The programme will open an exciting academic pathway for outstanding students, helping to build a dynamic community of motivated and capable learners. With the collective efforts of our academic team, we aim to unlock every student’s potential and strive for exceptional outcomes.
WHAT MAKES A DOVE SCHOLAR
At WAS Nanjing, we believe that excellence is not innate — it can be nurtured through education, persistence, and self-reflection.
Whether a student is an all-round achiever across disciplines or a passionate specialist in one subject area, any pupil demonstrating the following qualities could be recognised as a Dove Scholar:
