Strengthening Bonds with Our Sister School
“Through opportunities for cultural exchange, we not only aim to foster deeper connections among students, parents, and teachers, but we also aspire to establish a lasting cooperative relationship that paves the way for a broader future for our next generation. This cross-cultural interaction serves as the bridge we need in an increasingly globalised world. We look forward to strengthening these bonds in the future, working together to build an inclusive international education community.”
This is an excerpt from the words of Mr Bo Yuan, Vice President of Wycombe Abbey Schools (WAS) in the Greater China Region, at the “WAS Spirit, Crossing Time and Space” alumni event. This event, held on 25 May at The House of Roosevelt in Shanghai, provided a unique opportunity for representatives from different Wycombe Abbey schools to come together and celebrate their shared experiences. During the event, Mr Yuan outlined the ten-year journey of Wycombe Abbey Schools in China and the schools’ expansion plans in Korea and Southeast Asia. He outlined how WAS aims to establish a strong alumni network across Asia that will support the continuous development of all students after they graduate.
This remarkable event brought together an exceptional range of participants from many Wycombe Abbey schools.
Three staff members from Wycombe Abbey UK joined the event — Mr Nick Woods, Deputy Head (Strategy & Operations); Mrs Vicky Fawkes, Deputy Head (Pastoral); and Mrs Margot Wood, Deputy Head of Upper School — along with five Wycombe Abbey UK students accompanying their delegation. The top leadership team from BE Education, our strategic partner and school host, also attended the event, including Mrs Emma Vanbergen, President of Study Abroad, and Mr Peter Brogger, Group COO.
The importance of the gathering was further demonstrated by the attendance of senior management teams from three Wycombe Abbey Schools in the Greater China Region, including the current and incoming Executive Heads of Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou, Mr Tig Mooney and Dr Simon Probert; together with Deputy Head of Pastoral at Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou, Mr Duncan Woodhouse; Mrs Helen Benaglia-Wood, Executive Head of Kindergarten at Wycombe Abbey School Changzhou; and Mr Matthew Jamieson, Executive Head of Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing.
Additionally, Chinese families whose children will join Wycombe Abbey in the UK later this year also attended the event, helping them envision the comprehensive, holistic education philosophy that their children will soon enjoy.
