WAS Hangzhou Announces Major Upgrade to Secondary School Leadership——Our Academic Team Is All Set for the New School Year
Since its founding, WAS Hangzhou has championed the ethos that “Every Child Can Excel”, pioneering a dual-track educational model of academic rigour and holistic development.
As we welcome Dr Simon Probert as our Headmaster for the new academic year, we are opening a new chapter of continuity and innovation.
Drawing on over a decade of leadership in international education, Dr Probert contends that a robust, stable teaching faculty forms the bedrock of any outstanding school.
We are thrilled to announce that our upgraded Upper School leadership team will continue to guide pupils in building upon tradition while striving for new horizons.
Five of our thirteen upper school leading members are founding staff who have guided WAS Hangzhou from inception to establishment. They remain steadfast champions of our ‘Every Child Can Excel’ ethos.
This leadership cohort averages over fifteen years’ teaching experience, all holding degrees from world-leading institutions including Oxford University, Cambridge University, Warwick University and Manchester University. Almost three-quarters possess Master’s qualifications or higher, including two doctorates, while maintaining an average tenure exceeding three years at our school. They constitute the cornerstone of WAS Hangzhou’s educational excellence.
Guided by our holistic education philosophy, the upper school leadership team and teaching staff drive pedagogical innovation through bespoke learning frameworks. These tailored approaches empower pupils to realise academic potential and crystallise future pathways. Years of dedicated cultivation have culminated in exceptional 2024-25 outcomes: graduates secured places at elite global universities including UC Berkeley, University College London, and the University of Edinburgh，historic achievements in A-Level/IGCSE examinations, and over one hundred international competition accolades.
Concurrently, we welcome two distinguished appointments to the team. Both bring considerable international school expertise from prestigious institutions including Hong Kong Yew Chung International School and Shenzhen International Foundation College. Their seasoned perspectives shall prove invaluable in propelling our strategic development in the future.
